140924 TaeTiSeo share unfortunate happenings behind “Holler” MV filming

Written By Regina Kim on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 | 5:18 PM

We might adore and hail the girls for their glamorous music video for their comeback song “Holler” but there are more stories behind that are not glamorous as it can be.

On the September 23rd episode of OnStyle”s “The TaeTiSeo” the trio features the behind-the-scenes of their filming for “Holler”.

However, some struggles and hardships occurred during the process. To sum it up, Seohyun lost her balance during the scene with the glass stage and the broadcast showed the worried Taeyeon and Tiffany.

In addition to that, because of their concept”s demanding use of heels, Taeyeon almost broke her toe nails and expressed how many times she has suffered the same pain. Lastly, Tiffany who appeared to be very on hand throughout the filming has showed her love and dedication by personally taking the responsibility of coordinating their outfits and accessories.

When the girls have struggled like this, all we could do is support their comeback and cheer on them.

140924 That Which We Call A Rose: TaeTiSeo’s “Holler”

That Which We Call A Rose: TaeTiSeo’s “Holler” Written by Lo On September 24, 2014

Girl’s Generation has faced issues with their subgroup since the idea for TTSwas first conceived. Some Sones disagreed with the members selected, some believed that Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun were the only talented vocalists and the others were useless, others said that supporting TTS was a betrayal. The reaction to the news that TTS is getting a comeback following the accusations that “Mr.Mr” was “TTS and their backup dancers” did not go over well. Clearly, the trio needed a solid comeback. And on that count, Holler gets a pass. But perhaps an addendum was needed: a solid comeback with mostly original music. Because on that scale? Big fat “F”.

“Holler” is a really lackluster track. “Twinkle” was a song with personality and and spark and sparkle and oopmh. Not so much here. It’s really generic sounding, with the whole thing feeling more like album filler than a title track. Which makes sense, considering it’s a remake of Mizrock‘s B-side “Hello”. What is shocking is how much like “Hello” “Holler” sounds. Keeping the melody the same is a given, but most of the vocals are identical too. There’s no showboating, no belting, no high or held notes. TTS is supposed to be a vocals-oriented unit, and “Holler” just doesn’t back that concept.

“Adrenaline” is a fun bouncy song that’s really hard to start dancing too. TTS sound a lot more awake here than on “Holler”, which backs my perception of good pop as a viable caffeine replacement. “Adrenaline” is very stylized, with obvious autotune– albeit for effect rather than pitch correction–, and an upbeat frothy sugar-pop sound. It’s much more in line with the europop of five or six years ago, which fits, because it’s a remake of “Adrenaline” by the Velvet Angels. “Adrenaline”, as fun as it is, sounds childish and has a disconnect between the chorus and verses. However, they also harmonize fabulously, and play with picking up and dropping out of lines for a whirlwind effect. It’s definitely one of Holler‘s gems.

Third on the EP is “Whisper” which is actually an original song. And that is the only completely positive thing I have to say about it. As a whole, “Whisper” reminds of a really good background song, or high-quality hold music. It’s not lacking in quality, it’s just not a song ready for the big leagues. The lyrics are generic, the vocals are generic, the melody is generic. Nothing is bad, it’s just really, really meh.

“Stay” is the final original song on Holler, and is in the same vein as “Adrenaline”. It’s charming, upbeat silly love song. This is what goes through your mind when you’re in love. Let the day last forever, may this happy time never end. And praise Jesus, “Stay” showboats. Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun reach for notes, travel up and down scales, and belt some lovely adlibs. This is why TTS exists. Sadly, Tiffany’s rapping makes an appearance here. SM, do not let any member of Girls’ Generation rap. They cannot do it, and every time they do, it takes a year off the life of whoever hears it.

“Only U” is clearly meant to be the “Baby Steps” of Holler. Like “Baby Steps” it’s a pretty, delicate piano number paired with powerful, soulful yet quiet singing. Also like “Baby Steps”, it’s a remake. The original is called “Breathe You Out” byCharice, who is tragically best known as Glee‘s Sunshine Corazon. And like “Baby Steps”, “Only U” spanks the original. Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun sound hopeless in love, terrified of getting hurt, but unable and unwilling to stop their fall. It’s simply breathtaking, and by far the best song Holler has on offer.

Unfortunately, the last track on Holler is the worst. “EYES” is a blatant rip-off ofAriana Grande‘s “Problem”, and do not even try to say otherwise. The opening riff is a synth variation on the famous horn section; the sudden whisper before the chorus, the one-line chorus, the riff-drop, are all from “Problem”, aka The Biggest Goddamn Hit of 2014. It is not possible to do that without intending too. Really, it’s not even that it’s a rip-off that really pisses me off– it’s that “EYES” is a knockoff. Everything about it is a lower-quality imitation of a really good song. The only improvement is that TTS can actually enunciate, but that is not enough to make up for horn removal. Don’t take the horns out of pop music. MORE horns, not less.

It’s not that I hold to the idea that remakes or covers are bad. Honestly, I really like good covers. I prefer the Glee covers of “Teenage Dream” to the original, and I hate Glee with the fire of a thousand suns. It’s that there should be limits on how much a company relies on them, and they should be limited to covers or remakes that the artists sound good covering. TTS is, as a whole, not great with covers. When they sing “Holler”, “EYES” or “Adrenaline”, they’re on par with the originals. But a good cover should make it impossible to believe that they are not the originators, and while they can with some of their songs, they can’t with all. And that’s a bit of a problem. “Baby Steps” got a pass because it’s amazing. Most of Holler cannot say the same.

Holler is an EP defined not by its’ songs, but what its’ songs are. Two-thirds of this mini are remakes or ripoffs, and even though those songs are mostly good, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. SM is so shameless and unapologetic about it, it’s infuriating. The original songs–even “Adrenaline”, who’s originators are ungoogleable but probably Swedish– were found in about 12 hours. As someone who really liked Twinkle, it’s kind of offensive to get handed something that’s mostly other peoples’ work and be told “Yeah, we bought or stole most of this. Suck it.” But that doesn’t stop Holler from being a solid EP with good replay value and quality pop. SM might not make good music, but, clearly they can buy it.

They are planning on showcasing many new and personalized ideas in their new album.

140918 TaeTiSeo and WINNER Strike the Same Pose Backstage at Mnet’s “M!Countdown”

The members of TaeTiSeo and WINNER were seen striking the same pose behind the stage at Mnet’s music program “M!Countdown.”

On September 18, the official Twitter account of “M!Countdown” posted, “Really the same, totally the same part 2! WINNER tries to catch up with the lovely pose of Girls’ Generation – TaeTiSeo, who has returned with ‘Holler!’ This amount of synchronization is impressive!! Tune in to ‘M!Countdown’ tonight at 6 PM (KST),” along with two photos side by side of these two groups.

In an earlier post from the music program’s Twitter, WINNER introduced their new self-proclaimed sub-unit called “SeungSeungJin” (Seung Hoon, Seung Yoon, and Jin Woo), and congratulated TaeTiSeo on their comeback by taking a snapshot of themselves trying out the same pose done by their senior group.

These photos show TaeTiSeo’s Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun, as well as the three member of WINNER in the same exact poses, providing fans of both groups with a good laugh.

Meanwhile, the September 18 broadcast of Mnet’s “M!Countdown” will air the very first comeback music show performance of TaeTiSeo’s new title track “Holler.”

140918 TaeTiSeo return with “Holler” and “Adrenaline” on M!Countdown

TaeTiSeo has finally marked their return on music programs with their first broadcast performance of “Holler” along with another song “Adrenaline” on M!Countdown.

For these stages, the trio showcases funky and sexy choreography displaying their level-up stage presence and dropping their girly and cute concept two years ago.

Meanwhile, TaeTiSeo are performing two more songs to go along with “Holler” on their next stages this week. They are performing “Whisper” at Music Core on 20 and “Only U” at Inkigayo on 21.

140919 TaeTiSeo’s “Holler” Revealed as a Reproduced Track, after Questions of Being a Remake of Mizrock’s “Hello Me!”

TaeTiSeo’s new single “Holler” was recently under scrutiny for potentially being a remake.

“Holler” was released on September 16 and swept the real-time charts, seven daily charts, the first place spots on iTunes in nine different Asian countries, and ranked high on the charts in various other foreign countries. However, someone posted on a forum that “Holler” is similar to a Japanese song released in 2007.

The song in question is Mizrock’s “Hello Me!” Netizens who listened to the song stated that TaeTiSeo’s “Holler” is the exact same song, which actually killed questions of plagiarism, but made people wonder if the song was a remake.

SM Entertainment had never mentioned that the song was a previously released track on the album, which led to music fans being intrigued.

The Korea Music Copyright Association lists the composers of “Holler” as Engh Anna Sara Christina and Bostrom Fredrik Hakan. SM Entertainment explained, “The composers gave the same song to TaeTiSeo and Mizrock. TaeTiSeo’s “Holler” is reproduction of the original song, with modifications to the composition, and through the restructuring, SM has the right to use this song worldwide, even in Japan.”

What they meant was that “Holler” is not simply a rearrangement of “Hello Me!” but a brand new song with the composition and source changed.

Like “Holler,” reproduced songs are a common case worldwide. SM has created many hit songs through reproducing, such as TVXQ’s “Mirotic,” SHINee’s “Love Like Oxygen,” and “Juliet.”

One thing for certain is that TaeTiSeo’s “Holler” has had a much better response than Mizrock’s “Hello Me!” as seen by how popular “Holler” is in various Asian countries.

It’s a really great song, so we wanted to release it first. Let’s listen to it together later tonight!”

140912 Taetiseo announces mini-album release

Taetiseo, a subgroup of Girls” Generation, will release their second mini-album next week, their agency SM Entertainment announced yesterday through a press release.

Taetiseo is composed of three members from Girls” Generation: Taeyeon, Tiffany and Seohyun.

The new album, “Holler”, will initially be released through online music websites next Friday and will then stack brick-and-mortar store shelves two days later on the following Sunday.

Teaser pictures for the new album were revealed yesterday on the company”s official website and Facebook account, offering hints that the group will maintain its key concept of “bubbly with a little bit of skin”.

Taetiseo”s previous mini-album, “Twinkle”, which marked the subgroup”s debut, was released in 2012. The title track of the same name quickly picked up momentum both in and out of Korea, proving once again the solid foothold Girls” Generation has established globally.

“Twinkle” ranked No. 4 on the iTunes album chart worldwide.

The three members will begin promoting their song next Friday when the album hits online stores.

A reality TV show, “The Taetiseo”, was launched last Tuesday on cable channel On Style in an effort to lay the groundwork for the group”s imminent comeback.

The program is said to show fans the everyday lives of the girls.

140825 Taetiseo makes reality TV debut

Written By Regina Kim on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 | 3:19 PM

Members of Taetiseo, a subunit group of Girls” Generation, wave at a press conference to promote their new reality show “The Taetiseo”.

Prior to the release of their much-awaited album, Taeyeon, Tiffany and Seohyunof Girls” Generation“s subunit Taetiseo will reveal parts of their day-to-day lives through a reality TV show.

Starting Tuesday, the three girls will appear in “The Taetiseo” on cable channel On Style, which is operated by CJ E&M.

“We wanted to make our comeback special by starring in a reality show”, said Tiffany during a press conference held last week at CJ E&M”s headquarters in Sangam-dong, northwestern Seoul. “First, audiences will get to see more about our everyday life, and then get to see our lives as entertainers toward the latter part of the show”.

There is also a chance that the group”s new album will be released through the program, according to its chief producer, Kim Ji-wook. The group has released only one album so far, “Twinkle”, in 2012, so fans are anxiously waiting to hear the band”s new songs.

The program is a quasi-sequel to the channel”s “Jessica & Krystal“, a reality show that featured siblings Jessica from Girls” Generation and Krystal of f(x), which are both affiliated with SM Entertainment. After the show was well received, more artists from the agency decided to take part in reality shows.

Taeyeon said that the members of Taetiseo have known one another for more than 10 years, so they feel like family – sisters, to be exact.

“Instead of showing anything big, the program will be all about us being natural”, said Taeyeon.

“Since there might be some people who don”t know Taetiseo because we only released an album once, we wanted to focus more on showing a humane side rather than the professional side on stage”.

For the youngest member, Seohyun, filming the show was a little liberating.

“It was fun to go to an amusement park through the reality show and embellish myself how I wanted to without hiding behind hats or masks”, she said.

“Since it isn”t easy for us to do such things freely, I”m just so happy that I got this chance to share little habits or things we do often in a friendlier way”.

However, not so much about the members” love lives will be revealed through the show.

“I don”t think I need to show every part of my private life just because [I"m on] a reality show”, said Taeyeon, who went public about her relationship with boy group Exo”s Baek-hyun in June after a local media outlet revealed they were dating.

“The goal of doing this program is to share how we prepare for a new album, along with sharing some fashion and beauty tips that fans get curious about”.

The more active members like Tiffany and Sunny take the lead.” In response to this, Tiffany explained, “I want to drag all of the members out with me.” While the energetic Tiffany led the way for TaeTiSeo’s trip together, Taeyeon and Seohyun were quickly drained and were caught falling asleep.

Also in this episode, the youngest, Seohyun, will be showcasing her hidden unique charm even while shopping. Although she is unable to make decisions for long periods of time on their shopping trip, which tires out the other members, she continues onward until she is satisfied with all of her shopping, proving her peculiar innocence.

An OnStyle producer expressed, “Each of the three members has her own different character, so a color that is unique only to TaeTiSeo will emerge. All of the little charms that aren’t shown on stage will be revealed, and we expect that the viewers will feel an attachment to them and have fun watching.”

“The Tatiseo,” also called TTS, is the name of a sub unit girl group that Girls Generation”s Taeyeon, Tiffany and Seohyun formed in 2012. Their mini-album “Twinkle” became the highest charting k-pop act on the Billboard 200.

Each of these talented young women has enviable fashion skills and an interesting background.

Taeyeon is considered the leader of Girls Generation.

Tiffany was born in California but trained under SM Entertainment before debuting in Girls Generation. Seohyun is the youngest member of Girls Generation and is a skilled piano player.

According to a representative of the On Style channel, “The program will thoroughly analyze every detail from their cosmetic know-how to the fashion style of the members, as they are always in the spotlight wherever they go.”
