Over this past weekend the K-Pop universe was delighted by yet another mainstream American crossover when pop star Katy Perry posed for a picture with all nine members of Girls” Generation.
The picture of the ten beautiful songstresses spread across the internet like wild fire sparking interest among fans who are all too eager to see a collaboration sometime in the future.
Katy Perry is know in the United States and around the world for her very big voice, colorful fashion choices, and bubbly personality. On the other side of the Pacific,Girls” Generation hold a similar reputation as some of South Korea”s most talented nice girls in the biz.
Girls” Generation operate as a nine-member unit, at times making it difficult for American audiences to separate who is who, but a couple of the ladies definitely stand out more for their voices than the others.
At the top of the list of talent for many fans is Taeyeon. Her bright personality brings a certain amount of pep to her voice and outside the group she has had a relatively lustrous career working on soundtracks for movies and TV shows as well as on collaborative projects with a wide range of Korean musicians including The One andKim Bum Soo.Recently it was announced that Taeyeon would be joining the new lineup of SM the Ballad“s revival, further showing her versatility as a singer.
While the majority of Asia has fallen in love with Taeyeon and the rest of the Girls” Generation members, stateside Katy Perry has won the attention of many fans for her peppy attitude and fun, chart-topping singles.
Even though she got her start in the music industry singing gospel, somewhere along the line Katy Perry branched out and is now one of the most recognizable faces in the American music industry.Creating a fusion of sounds that has been described as everything from electro-pop rock to disco, she continually rises tot he top spot on the music charts with every new release.
Katy Perry is the first female artist to have an album produce five number one singles (Teenage Dream) and the second artist overall after Michael Jackson”sBad in 1987.
In Korea, Taeyeon and Girls” Generation have seen similar commercial success.Although popular beforehand, the release of “Gee” in 2009 really set things in motion for the group and the music video surpassed the Wonder Girls” “Nobody” as the number one most watched K-Pop video on YouTube until Psy“s “Gangnam Style” went viral.
Outside of YouTube, both Katy Perry and Taeyeon have an incredible fan following online as both are incredibly proficient in social media.
Taeyeon recently opened her own YouTube channel with the first video uploaded being a cover of Justin Bieber”s song “Be Alright.”The kickoff of her own channel got many Girls” Generation fans buzzing about the possible launch of a explicit solo career for the singer much to the tune of Katy Perry.
Only time will tell how far Taeyeon and Girls” Generation will go in the music world and if they ever will completely break into the American mainstream, but partnering up with someone like Katy Perry would definitely be a step in the right direction.
A fun, bubblegum pop-inspired duet between Taeyeon and Katy Perry would be just the thing to help bridge fans of both singers together – and just imagine how colorful and fun the music video would be!
